Baby Sleep Consultant Sutherland Shire, Sydney

What’s it like to work with our Little Sleepers baby sleep consultant?

Supportive, encouraging, empathetic. That’s just a few of the comments past clients have made which has comforted even the most stressed out parents.

The process starts by completing a thorough questionnaire about your child, family situation, sleep issues and goals. Using this information, Michelle will then customise a sleep plan tailored to your child and their specific needs. Following this, your consultation call will give you the chance to review the sleep plan, ask questions and raise any concerns, so you will be fully equipped to implement the plan confidently.

Over the next 2 weeks Michelle will offer support and guidance to overcome any hurdles you may encounter. Daily SMS check ins to discuss progress also provide added support and reassurance.

  • When you hire a Sleep Consultant, the value lies in the support, and the customised approach for your child, specific to their issues. Just like you could seek help from a Personal Trainer for advice on fitness and a healthy lifestyle, or you could do your own research online. The benefits of maintaining accountability, the support and expertise in their field is a valuable investment for most people. You can reach your goals sooner and you can trust that you will be guided through the process.

  • When changes are made to a way a baby falls asleep, they will protest and communicate this to you by crying. Learning a new skill can be challenging, no matter what it is. Your child is simply communicating to you that they would prefer to go back to their old sleep crutch (rocking, feeding etc) and they lack the confidence to learn how to fall asleep independently. We need to give them some space to learn these all important skills, and babies are quick learners!

Throughout the sleep training process you will be supporting your baby through your chosen sleep training technique. I do not advocate for extinction method (where you leave your baby to cry and not respond) and do not use this with my clients. You will either be in the room offering hands on support for younger infants or regular check ins for older babies. We are building their confidence in learning this new skill with your support while you ‘tune into’ your babies cries and not simply ‘tuning out’.

  • While we are working on your little ones sleep, its is best to not have any disruptions while they are learning these new skills for 2-3 weeks. It is not ideal to be moving house, going away on holidays etc, as we want to maintain consistency in your babies sleep environment and routine.

Consistency in implementing your chosen sleep training method is crucial for success, it’s confusing to then when we respond differently. Making big changes and sticking with the plan can feel daunting sometimes but I promise it will be short lived!

  • We will do a thorough assessment of your child’s current routine, sleep space, nutrition, development, sleep goals and family dynamics to help create a plan that works for your family. We will advise you of the sleep training techniques that we recommend based on your child’s age and temperament and your comfort level as a parent. We want you to feel supported and empowered every step of the way. During our time working together you will learn trouble shooting strategies to use on those days when things just don’t go to plan, so you can feel confident after your 2 weeks support is complete.

  • Once your sleep plan has been written, you will have a 1hr consultation to discuss each step of the plan, including your chosen sleep training technique. You can also ask any additional questions you may have.

You will have unlimited text support between 7am-9pm for any troubleshooting during the 2 week program. The package includes 2 additional check in calls of 15mins each. We recommend one call during the first week and one during the second week.

  • You can send a message on the website with your details and we will call you to discuss your current issues.

After our chat you will be sent a sleep questionnaire to complete which will guide Michelle to write your sleep plan.

After your payment is received a Consultation will be scheduled, and your Sleep Plan will be written. During your consultation call we will discuss the plan together and decide on a date to get started

Why do you need a Baby Sleep Consultant?

The first 12 months of your child’s life is a period of rapid growth and development. Good quality sleep is essential for their cognitive development. Periods of long, restorative sleep allows time to process newly learnt skills, language learning and memory consolidation.

Short naps and frequent night wakes do not allow your child to achieve the quality of sleep that they need. This can affect your child’s mood regulation, attention span, behaviour, health (immune and metabolic function) and their overall quality of life.

Disturbed sleep affects the whole family, and is a contributing factor in maternal depression. Sleep and mood go hand in hand. When we sleep in 1-2hr bursts, it deprives us of REM sleep which is not as restorative. Your mood is affected, stress hormones are high, making it harder to think clearly and regulate your emotions.

Trusting a sleep consultant to help improve your child’s sleep can be life changing, not just for you, but for your whole family.

You don’t need to be at rock bottom to be able to make changes to your child’s sleep, with the most common thing I hear being “I wish I did this sooner!”

Michelle was fantastic to work with, we were struggling with our 7.5month old catnapping throughout the day. Michelle quickly identified we needed to transition to two naps and helped tweak the day to make it work. After 2 weeks of working together Freddie is now taking a 1.5hr morning nap and 1hr afternoon nap!

Michelle was knowledgeable and supportive and we couldn’t be happier to have found her! Would 100% go to her for any sleep related issues that might come up in the future
